David Davies

1864 - 1939 Venice 1894
  • oil on canvas
39 cm x 29 cm
Description

Davies left Australia to study in Paris in 1890. Although he had not attempted seascapes before his move to Cornwall in 1892, having secured a studio that overlooked the water he proceeded to paint only seascapes for an entire year. Davies visited Venice, most probably in 1892 but did not paint this Venetian scene until well after his return to Melbourne in 1893.
